Off to London
Beginning Sunday, Feb. 26, I'll be teaching back-to-back sessions for Empty Spools Seminars at Asilomar Conference Grounds in Pacific Grove, California. In previous years, I've only taught one session at 'Asilomar.' I'm happy that Gayle and Suzanne booked me for two weeks this year!
When I return from the California coast, I'll have just two days at home before I head off to London for a vacation with my sister Linda and her husband Andrea. We have tickets to see Harry Potter and the Cursed Child on stage at the Palace Theatre, and we're going on the Harry Potter Warner Bros. Studio Tour at Leavesden. I've been waiting almost two years for this trip. It seems like forever ago since I was online frantically trying to buy tickets!
AQS QuiltWeek in Lancaster
Another first! I'll be teaching at the American Quilters Society QuiltWeek event in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, at the end of March. I have not been to this venue before and I've been looking forward to this trip for a long time. My workshops in Lancaster will include machine quilting, machine piecing and machine applique! I'll also be presenting two lectures. There are still spots available. Follow this link for more information on my classes: AQS QuiltWeek Lancaster. Click here for information on QuiltWeek.
Chicago IQA Quilt Festival
It's all about machine quilting at IQA's Spring Quilt Festival in Chicago. I am honored to be teaching all three days in the HandiQuilter Sweet Sixteen classroom! I've got a variety of classes being offered. Thursday will be Rhythm and Hues. This class focuses on quilting and tension issues. I'll be providing the kits which include fabric and batting sandwiches and spools of thread in a variety of fibers. You will understand how to adjust your tension after this all-day class, and how to have fun with different threads. Learn to free-motion quilt without a stitch regulator in my beginner machine quilting class titled Yes, You Can Stipple! on Friday morning. And, yes, I'll be covering much more than just stippling. It's a fast-paced and fun three-hour class.
Friday afternoon will be How Sweet It Is! -- an introductory class to the Sweet Sixteen sit-down longarm quilting machine. If you've been thinking of getting a sit-down longarm or have one and want to know the ins-and-outs of the machine, this is the class for you. It's like a three-hour test drive! Finally, on Saturday, my new class on free-motion quilting motifs will give you the confidence to tackle your quilting idea issues. The ratio of students-per-quilting machine in the Sweet Sixteen room is 1-to-1: one student per machine! What could be better? My classes tend to fill up fast, so register now! MISA Retreat Workshop
My workshop retreat in Waterville Valley, New Hampshire, in September at the Silver Fox Inn sold out within a few days after registration opened online. The waiting list for a spot is growing. I am thrilled with the response I've been getting for this event. If you've been thinking of taking one of my pictorial applique retreat workshops, there will be only one more opportunity for you to do so in 2017. As of this newsletter, there is still space available in my classroom at the Madeline Island School of the Arts in October. Registration for that event is open online. MISA is a terrific venue and the classrooms are spacious with plenty of natural light, ergonomic chairs, generous tables and the guest rooms are very comfortable. And, of course, my favorite amenity is the bottomless cookie jar. Yum. It is always a treat for me to be invited back to teach on the island.
My website shop
My online shop will be shutting down temporarily while I'm traveling. It will reopen upon my return home on March 20. Thanks for all your support.
Until next time,
