Dav'o Down Under
My friend Michelle Pearson - owner of Handcrafters House in Perth, Australia - invited me to teach my pictorial applique workshop Down Under back in 2013. We made plans for June 2014, but life got in the way. I had to cancel to undergo an unexpected surgery to have a heart valve replacement. The trip and workshop finally happened last month. The memory of 22 hours of flying across the Pacific is forgotten every time I look at the incredible photos I was able to capture of kangaroos, wombats, and wallabies. Michelle was the perfect host and tour guide. The workshop was a blast. Aussies sure know how to have FUN! We held a four-day version of my hand-applique workshop, with all of the students interpreting my hummingbird pattern (adapted from my 'Best of Show' quilt at IQA Spring Festival Chicago.) Each student brought their own fabrics and unique style to the classroom. I couldn't be more thrilled with the results!
The workshop in Perth was so much fun, I couldn't wait to try it again! I will be teaching the same hummingbird workshop at Lyons Quilting in Lyons, Colorado, next month. This is the only opportunity for a multi-day pictorial applique workshop with me in Colorado this year. It will be a three-day class (August 5-7), and for those who are worried about the time frame for gathering up fabrics, Tracey has one of the biggest and best selections of quilting cottons in the state. As each student gets their own table for the workshop, enrollment is extremely limited. Cost is $175.00 for the workshop. Follow this link for more information: Lyons Quilting Workshop.
On August 11, I'll be at Golden Quilt Company in Golden, Colorado, teaching my machine applique workshop. This class has become one the most rewarding for me as a teacher. The technique is turned-edge applique with nearly invisible stitching results: no fusing, no gluing, no raw edges, no satin stitching - no kidding! Space is limited, enroll now! More information at: Golden Quilt Company
Later this summer, I'll be back (finally!) at Holly's Quilt Cabin in Centennial, teaching three single-day workshops. Due to popular demand, two of the workshops will be for machine quilting! It's been a few years since I've taught a machine quilting class in Colorado. The workshops will focus on free-motion quilting, thread types and tension. These classes will fill fast, so contact Holly's today! Visit their website at: thequiltcabin.com
Silver Fox Inn
Due to some unexpected cancellations, there are now a few spots available in my workshop retreat in Waterville Valley, New Hampshire, in September. If you've been thinking of taking my pictorial applique workshop this is the perfect time. The workshop is four full days and two half-days and includes all meals, accommodations at the Silver Fox Inn, and a field trip to Keepsake Quilting for as little as $999.00 per person. For more information, visit this link on my website and register ASAP! Silver Fox Inn. Can't decide on a photo? Please let me know and I'll have an image - and pattern - available for you! I hope you can join us this fall. Ask anyone who's been with us in the past... you'll never go hungry at the Silver Fox Inn, the family-style meals are always delicious, the class size is kept to a minimum for more one-on-one instruction, and who doesn't enjoy a trip to Keepsake Quilting?
Thank you to everyone for all the support and generosity you've given me since the gas explosion and fire in my home. Teaching and traveling keep my mind occupied, and the hugs and kind wishes keep me going. The recovery process is still underway, and, sadly, I'll be unsettled for a while longer. There's not much to report at this time. I have reopened my online store as I'm in a temporary housing situation for a few months and have somewhere to land when I'm not on the road. I hope to be back to some sense of 'normal' soon. The messages, letters, cards, gifts and long-distance hugs have meant the world to me. Thank you, thank you.
I'll be busy this fall with more a few more retreat workshops: Madeline Island School of the Arts in October, Art Quilt Tahoe in November, and Empty Spools Seminars at Asilomar in February/March 2017. Enrollment is filling up, so register soon. There's more info at: Retreats
See you soon!
That's all the news for now. I keep my online calendar as up-to-date as possible, so I hope to see you at an event soon.
Until next time,
