Andrea Brokenshire
Floral Painted Appliqué on Silk

I am inspired by the natural world. Won’t you join me in my paint box to learn my technique for painting realistic floral imagery onto silk. You will have a choice between three different flowers for your project. To make it easy, all materials you will need will be provided with just a little homework before class. In addition to painting your beautiful flower, I will also demonstrate how I create my highly textural confetti backgrounds and my technique for turning the edges of the finished applique’ for a clean finish. So lets have some fun and create with paint and fiber.

Sue Pelland
Rotary Cut Applique

Let’s find an easier way to applique, Rotary Cut Applique! Sue Pelland’s applique quilts are inspired by traditional and antique quilts, but there is nothing traditional about the way they are made. Using raw-edge fusible applique, students master methods that increase speed, accuracy and enjoyment of making applique quilts! Perfect your rotary cutting technique as you explore the vast variety of shapes that can be cut and fused with curved-edge cutting templates. Level up your decorative machine stitching skills with perfect points and curves. Approach future applique quilts with confidence and skill. Students will make a medallion quilt with clamshell setting triangles.

David M. Taylor   - CLASS FULL, WAITLIST ONLY
Pictorial Animal Applique

David Taylor’s quilts are often mistaken as paintings, and that makes him very happy. His works are adapted from photographs,  and his technique evolved from his love of jigsaw puzzles. In this workshop, students will learn the secrets to his craft. Topics include his unique pattern drawing method and freezer paper appliqué technique. A strong emphasis is placed on fabric selection (bring as much as you can to the class) and using those fabrics wisely. Students are required to submit image options in advance of the workshop.

Laura Wasilowski
Fuse, Design, Stitch

This class is about discovery. Laura will guide you in the creation of several small art quilts using fused fabrics and improvisational methods of construction. Your original designs then act as your canvas for improvisational hand embroidery. You’ll learn basic fusing skills and techniques for quilt construction and how to easily invent new designs through improvisation. You’ll learn how to hand embroider a fused art quilt and find how a well-placed stitch brings your quilt to life.  Discover the joy of making multiple pieces of art with the ease of fusing and the delight of free-form, unfettered hand embroidery.
